For Midwives
Wisconsin Affliliate Meeting Information
The purpose of the Wisconsin Afflilitate of the American College of Nurse-Midwives is to support the practice of Wi CNMs and promote access to midwifery care. The WI ACNM has four meetings per year announced well in advance. The meetings are run by the elected chair of the WI affiliate, or her designee. The location of these meetings rotates to different cities to encourage attendance of members from all regions of the state. For example, Madison, Milwaukee and LaCrosse are common meeting sites. Each meeting is approximately 2 hours long and involves time for announcements, business, political action, fundraising, out of hospital birth issues, in hospital birth issues and networking. WI ACNM has a lobbyist who works with the membership on political issues concerning midwifery care. Fundraising efforts and dues go to support the lobbying efforts of WI ACNM. Nonmembers are invited to attend a meeting in order to learn how the affilitate functions and about membership benefits.
There are two membership levels:
Active
Student

CNM Licensure in Wisconsin:
The Wisconsin Department of Regulation and Licensure has information regarding licensure for nurse-midwives. Following Certification from the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB), CNMs must obtain WI license to practice beyond their license as a Registerd Nurse. Wisconsin Certified nurse-midwives (CNMs) are licensed as Nurse-Midwives and if they meet the criteria for applicaiton, can also be licensed as Advanced Practice Nurse Prescribers (APNPs) to obtain prescriptive authority for all legend and schedule II-IV drugs. CNMs who are APNPs are elligible to obtain a DEA number.
APNP license renewal in the state of Wisconsin requires 45 contact hours in clinical pharmacology/therapeutics within 3 years preceding the application for a certificate to issue prescription orders. Detailed instructions on how to obtain prescriptive authority in Wisconsin are available on the following website, click here. For continuing education 8 contact hours per year are required through AANA, ACNM, ANCC, NCBPNPN, AANP, NCC, or AACN.
